Mother’s Day Traditions for Expecting Mamas

With Mother’s Day right around the corner, we wanted to propose some traditions that you can get started while expecting. Whether you’re a first-time mama or expecting again, this list has some wholesome ideas for everyone!

Create a baby bump bowl

Commemorating your baby bump with an ultrasound picture is a cute tradition that never gets old. However, why not take this idea up a notch? Picture this: taking a little trip to a pottery studio and impressing your bump into a bowl that you can use for home decor, storage or as a unique dining piece? This tradition not only makes for a memorable experience but leaves you with a one-of-a-kind artifact of your precious pregnancy days.

Decorate your own picture frames

This idea’s perfect for the DIY and thrifty moms-to-be out there! There’s no doubt that you’ll be taking a bunch of photos once your little one is born. I mean, the photo opportunities are endless: them wearing their first set of baby clothes, sleeping in their crib, getting their first house tour and so much more!

Thus, we recommend buying some vintage picture frames or decorating your own so you’ll have a bunch ready to place around your home. While digital photos are great, being able to hold a physical print will feel more meaningful and nostalgic.

Write them a bedtime story

Building your baby a library is a great way to start thinking about the important lessons you’ll want them to learn as they grow up. While we totally recommend browsing your local bookstore or thrift shop, why not try your hand at penning your own bedtime story? You can draw on formative episodes from your childhood, such as your lived experiences, or even morals from your favourite book series, movies and songs!

This idea will be a sweet trip down memory lane for you. It’ll also make for a deeply personal moment with your child once they’re older and able to read and understand it better.

Involve your mom

This tradition may be obvious, but some of the most important ones are forgotten when you’re preparing to bring your little one into the world. Your mom will understand where your head is at, though, so giving her a call regularly and especially on Mother’s Day is sure to bring you some clarity, peace and maternal insights.

Needless to say, involving your mom on Mother’s Day and other special occasions before and after your baby is born will make her incredibly happy. It’ll also show your child early on that they have a loving and present family supporting them all year round!

Now remember: you’re still a mom, even if your little boy or girl isn’t here yet. So enjoy these traditions as you excitedly await the new ones to come with your new baby bestie!

Happy Mother’s Day! 💐
