Best Foods to Eat When Trying to Get Pregnant
If you’re trying to get pregnant, there are some foods that can help you along the way. We’ve compiled a list of some of the top foods to eat when you’re trying to get pregnant. Ultimately, eating a healthy balanced diet is key for health no matter what stage of life you’re in. As always, make sure to check with your doctor or health professional when changing your diet or if you think you may be having fertility problems.
Multivitamin
Adding a multivitamin to your diet is a great way to boost your health and ensure you’re getting all the nutrients you need. Remember, a multivitamin is not a replacement for healthy eating, just an additional boost!
Spinach
Dark leafy greens such as spinach are full of iron, which is an important part of any diet, but particularly if you’re trying to get pregnant. Non-heme iron, which is found in vegetable sources, has even been linked to increased fertility rates. So get your green smoothie on and eat some spinach! Pro tip: plant-based iron can be hard for your body to absorb, so try pairing it with vitamin C, which helps you absorb it more easily.
Whole Grains
Whole grains such as whole wheat bread or pasta are an excellent choice when you’re trying to get pregnant. These foods will help increase your fibre levels which can help keep your body’s blood sugar level balanced. If you usually love white pasta and white rice, try swapping out 50% of it for the whole wheat version–you won’t even notice a difference!
Salmon
Fatty fishes like salmon are a great food option when you’re trying to get pregnant. They’re full of protein and healthy omega-3s. You are still totally fine to eat raw fish such as sushi when trying to get pregnant, so that’s a great additional way to get some in! Remember to avoid eating fish that contain high levels of mercury, such as tuna.
Full Fat Dairy
Full fat dairy is an excellent source of protein. But even better than that, it has been shown to lower infertility rates when regularly consumed! So swap out your skim milk for whole if you’re trying for a little one!
We hope this list helps give you some great healthy ideas of food to eat when trying to get pregnant! Happy eating!
