What (not) to Wear When Breastfeeding
When you’re a new mom, breastfeeding your baby can be exciting, but it can also be a very difficult and scary journey. There will be so many things on your mind between latching, soreness, and exhaustion, that the last thing you’ll want to worry about is clothes that aren’t functional. You definitely want to make sure your clothing is comfy and accessible. With so many options today, it’s hard to know what the best choice is, so we’ve compiled what you probably shouldn’t wear and what you really should during you early days of breastfeeding! 🤱
What not to wear:
A T-Shirt 🙅♀️
While they are true staples, t-shirts can be very difficult to breastfeed in. With higher necklines and full sleeves, even the stretchiest ones just don’t make the cut. For nursing, garments with accessibility truly reign supreme, so save your fave tees for later days.
A Button Down Shirt 🙅♀️
A button down shirt seems like it would be a good choice. After all, you can undo the buttons for easy access…right? Unfortunately, it’s not quite that simple. Even with buttons down the front of a shirt, you can’t necessarily get the access you need. And if you do manage to get it, you’ll be stuck with your entire front visible to everyone around. Leave the button down for the office and avoid it during nursing!
A Nightgown 🙅♀️
Nightgowns are definitely comfortable, however even when they are super cozy they might not be the ideal nursing garment. Since the shoulders aren’t typically outfitted with snaps or buttons, you’ll likely have to pull the entire gown up in order to get breastfeeding access—At that point, what’s the point of wearing clothes at all!?
So what should you wear? 💁♀️
