Our next Hospital Experience spotlight is on Alicia Hall! A beautiful, hardworking professional from Atlanta, GA! Alicia has been the primary caregiver to multiple different family members and is generous enough to share her tips and tricks with the Giftgowns community!

GG: Tell us about yourself, include if you’re a patient, survivor, or family member of someone who has had elongated hospital stays.
AH: Two of my family members spent quite a bit of time in the hospital. My dad and my stepdad were both hospitalized before they passed. I was with my dad almost everyday. I wanted him to know that I wasn’t going anywhere and that I loved him.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to do the same for my stepdad, but I called and spoke to him on the phone. The last time I saw him was the first and only time I was able to visit him in the hospital. The last thing I said to him was “I love you man” and he said “I love you too Licia”. A few days later he passed.
GG: In three words, how would your friends and family describe you?
AH: Creative, Affectionate, Beautiful (inside & out!)
GG: How has medical issues/health issues effected your life and the lives of your family and friends?
AH: Medical issues have effected my family in major ways being that we took two major losses in a three year time span. Now my grandfather is starting chemotherapy. So we are still adjusting to the changes that are happening.
GG: What are tips and tricks you would like to give those who are also a support person ?
AH: My number one tip is to prepare mentally as much as you can and surround yourself with positive people and energy
GG: How do you take care of yourself during times when you need to take care of others?
AH: Mental preparation and rest. Helping others can be a bit draining mentally and physically.
GG: Do you have any special routines or mantras that help you cope?
AH: Music always helps me cope with any situation

What’s your favourite vacation destination? Anywhere with a beach!
